Hot Chip: Made In The Dark (2008)

Look out Kanye, there is a new movement of electro dance rock heating up the industry. Hot Chip’s Made In The Dark screams DISCO! Tracks like “Out At The Pictures”, ”Shake Your Fist”, and “Hold On” all are deserving of being played along side popular ‘Top 40′ club hits. Hot Chip joins several other indie bands in creating fun and groovy beats. LCD Soundsystem, Justice, MIA, !!! (chk chk chk), are all making noise with their tempting dance arrangements.
Not every track on Made In The Dark is made for the dance floor. Hot Chip strays away from the contagious beats in “One Pure Thought”, which offers a softer and melodic vocal. Made In The Dark starts fast out of the gates, but the pace abruptly ends with two slow ballads rounding out the album. At times it seems like Hot Chip is trying to figure out what kind of band it wants to be. What they do deliver is an unique sound that leaves you wanting to shake your thang, while also offering the listener some intimacy and a glimpse at the bands soul.
